Aloe Vera has saponin (Soap)

Ayurvedic name: Ghrita Kumari
Latin Name: Aloe Vera
English Name: Indian aloe

Most people know aloe vera as a moisturizing or conditioning ingredient in cosmetic or toiletries. But just like aritha (soapwort), Aloe vera has saponin.
The soapy substance that cleanses and also has antiseptic properties.

Freeze-dried aloe vera powder is more economical and not as susceptible to spoilage.

Organic Aloe gel is freeze dried resulting in a fine white powder. Freeze drying preserves the essential properties. ONLY the water is removed. This fine powder dissolves easily in water. You may add a small amount of this concentrated powder to your conditioner or shampoo.

Search in the wikipedia box below, for more information about "freeze drying", saponin or aloe vera.

Another Plant species with saponins.

Ex: Quinona Seeds

Popular in countries like south america.
These cooked seeds can be an alternative to rice.
Before cooking Quinoa seeds, it is necessary to rinse(or soak ) thoroughly to remove the bitter powdery saponin resin. Aritha has a fair amount of saponins. The Quinona seeds also have a fair amount of saponins.
The soapy liquid produced from rinsing the seeds, has the same cleansing abilities as the Aritha ayurvedic herb.

*Consumption of quinona seeds without proper rinsing can be toxic.*

Saponin,Aritha and Shikakai

What does Aritha and Shikakai have in common?
Well it's saponins. The soapy "sudsy" substance formed when water is added. Both Aritha and Shikakai have saponins. Both of these powdered herbs are used as natural shampoos in india. Aritha has a higher saponin content than shikakai. Saponins are also antifungal and antimicrobial.

"Veda Mixtress"

I am finally going to start using the ayurvedic herbs to make hair products.
For example brahmi herb infused in jojoba and coconut oil.
This is ideal to use on scalp before shampooing or conditioner wash. I will also add essential oils like ylang ylang .
